2025 Canadian Tax Year – Key Dates Checklist

(For returns filed in 2026)

Use this checklist to stay on top of your Canadian tax obligations and avoid late-filing penalties or interest.


Personal Income Tax – Individuals

January–February 2026
Gather tax slips (T4, T5, T3, RRSP receipts, tuition slips, etc.)

March 2, 2026
RRSP contribution deadline for the 2025 tax year

April 30, 2026
• Individual income tax return filing deadline
• Payment deadline for any balance owing

April 30, 2026
Pay taxes owing even if filing late (to avoid interest)


Self-Employed Individuals

April 30, 2026
Payment deadline for 2025 taxes

June 15, 2026
Filing deadline for self-employed individuals and their spouse/common-law partner

Confirm if tax instalments are required
(Net tax owing over $3,000 in prior years)


Individual Tax Instalments (If Required)

March 15, 2026 – 1st instalment
June 15, 2026 – 2nd instalment
September 15, 2026 – 3rd instalment
December 15, 2026 – 4th instalment


GST/HST (Business Owners)

☐ Confirm filing frequency (Monthly / Quarterly / Annually)

Annual filers (Dec 31 year-end):
April 30, 2026 – Payment deadline
June 15, 2026 – Filing deadline

Quarterly filers:
Payments typically due 1 month after each quarter end


Corporations

Corporate tax instalments
(Monthly or quarterly during 2025, if required)

T2 Corporate Tax Return
Due 6 months after fiscal year-end

Corporate tax balance payment
• Due 2 months after year-end
3 months if eligible CCPC


Important Reminders

☐ Deadlines falling on weekends or holidays move to the next business day

☐ Keep copies of all tax documents for at least 6 years

☐ Interest applies immediately on late payments — even if returns are filed on time
